Teenie is the true story of the coming of age of a young African American girl whose parents, from a poor, segregated rural area of Mississippi, raised her in a white, middle-class northern Indiana neighborhood during the 1950’s and early 60’s. Teenie initially expresses her hurt and anger over racism, sexism, colorism, and classism by striking back at her tormentors.
